WROCŁAW, the house of Edith Stein

38, Nowowiejska street, the house Edith Stein – Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross,OCD, Saint Patron of Europe, born in Wroclaw in 1891, died in Auschwitz in 1942.

In this house, we find the destiny of a German and Jewish family and its catholic members with residing members of an evangelical religious community. The Stein’s heritage, that is their home, is still a place where people can meet and dialogue independently of their religion or nationality.

Visiting the Saint’s house you will discover the incredible story of a woman who grew up in the Jewish tradition and whose choices have led her to sanctity

You will travel back in the past: the exhibition in Edith’s and Augusta, her mother’s bedrooms will make you travel to Breslau where you will meet amazing people whose destiny has been tragic. On the first floor you will find the largest and the most beautiful room where Edith used to run her famous philosophy seminars in which more than 30 people would take part. You will find out why an icon of St Francis of Assisi had its place in the living room of a Jewish family and you’ll be able to check if the chestnut tree from Edith’s time is still the garden!

For those groups who want to celebrate the Eucharist in the Saint’s house, it will be possible to set up the living room to that effect and up to 80/100 persons will be able to attend. It will be a beneficial halt on your way to the Holy Father and will help you to think about your vocation.

For each group, we allow 3 hours for the visit and the celebration. To register you will have to fill in the form on our website or to contact the Brothers at the Centre.
